David Michael Kalman

I started my media career in local newspapers (News Press Group, 1980) and soon found myself immersed in the computing revolution as Editor of Data Based Advisor (Data Based Solutions, Inc.) and later as Editor-in-Chief of DBMS Magazine M&T Publishing/Miller Freeman/CMP Media, 1991). My immersion included writing books and teaching myself the fundamentals of database design and application development. In the mid-90s I crossed over into the publishing side of the business and found myself with a portfolio of brands serving database application development professionals. At the that time, it became clear to me that the business technology professionals responsible for strategic database applications would drive the evolution of business from automation to information to intelligence. Based on this insight, in 1998 I launched Intelligent Enterprise magazine and its associated online communities, along with the Intelligent Business Performance Management Conference. I left CMP at the end of 2003 and in 2004 launched Terrella Media, Inc., to help marketers build brand communities using strategies I had learned in my publishing career. I recently dissolved the corporation and currently advise clients part time from home, while I contemplate my next career.
